Newport Storm Center: Newport Digs Out

Stay updated on the aftermath of the snowstorm

Tuesday's snowstorm came and left without incident in Newport, according to the Newport Police Department. There were no major arrests or incidents. Nine cars were towed due to the parking ban. 

The aftermath of the storm has left the area with frigid temps, with a high of around 16 degrees Wednesday through Friday. Temperatures should climb back up by Saturday, reaching a high of 36.  

Most locals reported the storm was less severe than they anticipated on the Newport Patch Facebook page.

parking bans

  • Middletown police have issued a parking ban beginning at noon on Tuesday.
  • The City of Newport will enforce a parking ban at 7 p.m. Tuesday. See what streets are impacted here.

  • The Newport Skating Center will be closed today because of the impending storm and plans to reopen Wednesday at 5 p.m

  • The workshop with the Newport School Committee and the Newport City Council, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22 has been cancelled. There is no reschedule date at this time.

It is a city ordinance to remove snow from walkways that abut your residence or business.  

volunteers needed! 

If you are able-bodied and willing, Serve Rhode Island is recruiting volunteers to shovel snow for elderly, disabled and other residents in need. Read more here
