Your Guide: Newport Pie Run

Your guide to the annual Thanksgiving Pie Run hosted by the Newport Running Club.

The Newport Running Club organizes the annual Pie Run, held Thanksgiving morning, in Middletown.

Basic Information 

This year's race will be on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, starting at 8:30 am.  The five mile USATF sanctioned road race and 3 mile non-competitive walk starts and ends in front of the Newport County YMCA, 792 Valley Road, and is a scenic course with panoramic views of Sachuest Beach. 

Entrants are asked to bring one non-perishable food item to be contributed to a local food bank.  Long sleeve technical shirts are available for all preregistered participants whose registrations are received prior to Nov. 11th, 2013.  

Entry cost is $25, both pre and post registration.

Warm Up

Easton's Point Pub, located at 116 Aquidneck Ave., is offering free coffee for chilly runners and their fans beginning at 8 a.m.  

Traffic Restrictions 

The course starts at the YMCA on Valley Road where runners will proceed south on Valley Road to Aquidneck Avenue to Crescent Road to Tuckerman Avenue (west) back to Purgatory Road to the Sachuest Point Road.

Runners will turn around at the “Ticket Gate” on Sachuest Point Road and complete the return by running on Sachuest Point Road to Purgatory Road to Crescent Road to Aquidneck Avenue and complete the run at the entrance of the YMCA on Valley Road.

Motorists may avoid traffic delays by traveling North on Green End Avenue. Traffic traveling South on Valley Road at Johnnycake Hill Road will be detoured around the race by traveling through the Industrial Park to John Clarke Road and then detour Northbound on Aquidneck Avenue.

Traffic traveling South on Aquidneck Avenue will be detoured through the Industrial Park at John Clarke Road to Johnnycake Hill Road to Valley Road Northbound. Traffic traveling Northbound on Aquidneck Avenue will remain open during the race with police officers directing traffic along the racecourse.
