Woman With BAC of 2.4 Times Legal Limit Tells Police 'I Don't Drink'

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Sireena Martin, 23, 8 Ledyard St. Apt. #2, was arrested Tuesday around 1:30 a.m. on charges of driving under the influence with a BAC of .15 or greater. Police said she was stopped because she ran a red light on America’s Cup Avenue.  She allegedly told the officer, "I'm not from here. I don't know anything about Newport." When asked how long she had lived in Newport, she allegedly answered “Since 2009.” 

She handed over a business card and said “here is my registration, said police. When asked to recite the alphabet she reportedly said “A” then “P” then “H” and then started back at “A”.  The officer then asked if she had anything to drink and she allegedly answered, “I don’t drink.” At the station, she registered a BAC of .194 and .191, said police.

Car Break-in  

Curtis Tripp, 26, 392 Long Hwy., Little Compton, was arrested on Tuesday around 5:30 a.m. on charges of larceny for a motor vehicle under $1500.  He allegedly stole $10 and a jacket from a car.
