RHS Student Charged with Assaulting His Teacher

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A 17-year-old Newport boy was arrested around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, for allegedly assaulting his teacher, police reports said.

Police were dispatched to Rogers High School for a report that a student had attacked a teacher.

According to reports, the student became upset because he felt the teacher was siding with another student.

Witnesses said during the disagreement, the boy said “I hate white people,” walked around the table and punched the teacher, who was sitting in a chair, in the face several times.

Newport Fire Rescue treated the teacher, who was bleeding from had a cut over his eye and had several bumps and welts. He said he did not need to be transported to the hospital.

The student was arrested and brought to the Rhode Island Training School.
