Police Break Up Bloody Knife Fight, Man Charged With DUI After Accident

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Jaron Monroe, 24, of 3 Hall Ave., Newport was arrested Wednesday around 4:25 a.m. for disorderly fighting after police broke up a large fight at Heath Street at Pond Street. Several people had blood on their shirts, said police. One man had a five inch long cut to his lower stomach, but refused to discuss how it happened, said police.  A witness pointed to Monroe and said “he has a gun!”  Police said he was ordered to the ground several times but he refused and stood with clenched fists.  In the cruiser he said “you’re going to have to taze me, I ain't doing this." Police did not find a gun.

Man Charged With DUI After Parking Lot Accident 

Felix Maez, 61, of 364 Bellevue Ave. Apt #C4, was arrested Wednesday around 4:05 p.m. on charges of drinking and driving. Police said he crashed into a Jetta at the Bellevue Plaza. Police said he was unsteady on his feet and when asked if he had been drinking, he said “yes." During the field sobriety tests he allegedly lost his balance and said “just arrest me.”   He registered a BAC of .148 and .156.

Man Charged With Vandalism

Luis Lill, 18, 231 Maple Ave. Apt #1001, was arrested on charges of vandalism around 1:50 a.m. Thursday. He allegedly broke a window at the Festival Field Apartment complex.
