Newport Victim in Boston Bombing Identified by Friends

Newport resident Heather Abbott remains in the hospital on Tuesday

A Newport resident remains in the hospital Tuesday after she was injured in the Boston Marathon bombing Monday afternoon.  Heather Abbott, originally from Lincoln, underwent surgery Monday night at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, friends confirmed.

Jason Geremia, who was with Abbott at the time of the bombing said he continues to hope for a full recovery.  "We are praying she keeps her foot," he said Tuesday morning.

During the incident, former Newport resident and mutual friend Meshelle Chabot texted Patch, "There is a second bomb right in front of us, waiting on the bomb squad.  Not leaving, if they are terrorists and they are still around, they will be shooting."
