Sandra J. Flowers is in her third term as a Newport School Committee member.  She finds it interesting that she has placed third--behind Jo Eva Gaines and Dr. Charles Shoemaker--in each of her three runs for office.  A native Newporter, she graduated from St. Catherine Academy, Salve Regina (BA, 1965), RI College (MA in Teaching, 1969), and again from Salve Regina (CAGS, 1995, and PhD, 2006).  She taught elementary grades  for 30 years in the Newport Public Schools, and continues her involvement as a BOLD kindergarten tutor at Coggeshall School and as a mentor at Thompson Middle School. Last summer, Sandra was a BOLD volunteer in the elementary program at Underwood.

Sandra is also on the boards of various organizations, including Forum Lodge/Sons of Italy, Newport Festa Italiana, Friends of Newport Public Library, the Newport Democratic City Committee, Baby Steps, and St. Joseph's Parish Council.
