Mandatory Evacuations for Coastal Newport Residents and Businesses

The Newport Emergency Management Team has issued a mandatory evacuation of all coastal inhabitants by midnight tonight.

The Newport Emergency Management Team has issued a mandatory evacuation of all coastal inhabitants by midnight tonight. We strongly encourage all to relocate to safe locations. The evacuation routes are posted on the City’s Website, along with maps indicating the areas that should relocate shaded in green on the Hurricane Evacuation flood map. Please note that if you choose to stay in an area that should be evacuated, you may be isolated from emergency and rescue personnel. At this time, the only shelters in service are the Red Cross shelters located at Gaudet Middle School in Middletown, RI and Portsmouth Middle School located in Portsmouth, RI. If access to the internet is not possible, please call the Newport Fire Department at 845-5900…
