Navy Announces Next Naval War College President
Navy Rear Adm. Walter E. Carter, Jr. will be assigned as the 54th president for the U.S. Naval War College (NWC).
The Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert announced in a Feb. 27 Department of Defense news release that Navy Rear Adm. Walter E. Carter, Jr. will be assigned as the 54th president for the U.S. Naval War College (NWC). Carter, who has been selected for the rank of rear admiral, is currently serving as commander, Carrier Strike Group Twelve, Norfolk, Va. The change of command ceremony, where he will relieve current NWC President Rear Adm. John N. Christenson, will be announced at a future date. Christenson has served as the president since March 30, 2011. A native of Burrillville, R.I., Carter graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1981 and was designated a naval flight officer in 1982. …
