Paiva-Weed Receives Endorsement for Re-Election to Office of President of the Senate

The Rhode Island Senate’s Democrats gave their unanimous endorsement to the reelection of M. Teresa Paiva Weed to the Office of President of the Senate at a Democratic Caucus held today in the Senate Lounge at the State House. The election of the President of the Senate, by the full membership of the Senate, will take place on January 1, 2013, the first day of the new legislative session. Senator Paiva Weed is completing her second term as President of the Senate. She previously served for five years, from 2004 through 2008, as Senate Majority Leader. She is the first woman in Rhode Island history to serve in either of these offices. She is also the first woman to serve as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee (1997-2000). Senator Paiva …

Maher Center to Honor Senate President Paiva-Weed

The celebration will be at the Hyatt on Oct. 14.

The James L. Maher Center will be honoring Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed for her many years of service to the James L. Maher Center and the members of Aquidneck Island.   The Maher Center’s Annual Cocktail Celebration will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Newport on Goat Island, Sunday, October 14 from 4:30pm – 7pm.  Tickets maybe purchased for $60 per person by calling the Development Office at the Maher Center (401) 846-4600 ext 3120.  The evening will be filled with community spirit, food, drinks, silent and live auctions, raffles and entertainment provided by Paul DelNero and his Jazz Quartet.   There will be a special fundraising effort that evening to raise needed funds to purchase a bus for our recreation program to …
