Newport Stabbing Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

Joseph Perryman plead not guilty to murder on Tuesday

Joseph Perryman, 42, of Newport pleaded not guilty to murder in Newport County Superior Court on Tuesday.  He is being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institute.  Perryman allegedly stabbed and murdered 44-year-old Anthony E. Simmons, also of Newport. He was arrested and charged with murder last December after being found a short distance away from the crime scene. According to police reports, several witnesses said the two men had been arguing before the incident at the 53 ½  Gould St. apartment. Perryman allegedly stabbed Simmons several times. Newport Man Allegedly Stabbed at Middletown Bar; Police Make Arrest

The following was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Middletown police arrested Quinci Hill, 23, of Newport on a felony assault with a dangerous weapon charge after a 29-year-old Newport man was allegedly stabbed at Scotty's Big Dawg's early Sunday morning.  Hill does not have a permanent address on record. Police reported they were called to Big Dawg's around 1:05 a.m.  for a report of a fight inside the bar. Police said when they arrived on-scene, a crowd of people yelled, "He's inside!"  Police said Hill's shirt was covered in blood and there was blood on a wall near the door.  Hill allegedly told police the blood was from his own nose but reports said he showed no signs of injury. Man Charged in Ice Pick Stabbing

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Newport man was charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly attacked someone with an ice pick early Saturday morning.  The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries. The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Jamere M. Wilkins, 35, of Newport, was arrested around 8:20 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 and was also charged with domestic disorderly conduct, domestic simple assault and domestic breaking and entering. Police were dispatched to the emergency room at Newport Hospital for a reported stabbing. The victim, a 41-year-old Boston man, had been stabbed repeatedly in the parking lot at Rolling Green apartments. UPDATE: Police Investigate Stabbing at Studio 3

One victim was brought to Newport Hospital. Newport Police are investigating the stabbing.

Police are investigating a stabbing in downtown Newport late last night, Sgt. John Carlone said Sunday afternoon. The stabbing occurred at Studio 3, 270 Thames St., at about 12:40 a.m. Sunday. One male victim was transported to Newport Hospital. Police are not aware of his condition. "There is an active investigation," Carlone said.
