A hard-hitting new workout program is coming to the Boys and Girls Club this week. Starting tonight, Feb. 6, Newport Boxfit co-founders Jesse Macrae and Andrew Menton will be whipping people into shape twice a week in the downstairs studio. “We are offering a unique training style that is one of the most demanding yet rewarding workouts around,” Menton said. Macrae, a passionate boxer who recently immigrated to the United States and is originally from New Zealand, said he was shocked when he realized that there was little offered in the way of boxing on the island. Instead of leaving the island, Macrae and Menton, his rugby teammate, decided to start their own program right here at home. Macrae has been involved with boxing for 15 years …

The Rogers Vikings girls tennis team defeat Mt. Hope 4-3 and maintain a perfect record for the season heading into the final week of match play.
The Rogers Girls tennis team remains undefeated heading into the final week of Division III south Tennis. In another very close match against Mt. Hope the Vikings prevailed by the end of the evening (4-3). They have two more tough matches against Tiverton High (5-3) on October 14th and 2nd place Exeter/West Greenwich High (7-2) on October 22nd to end the regular season. If the Vikings win two of their last three matches they secure home court advantage for the 1st round of the playoffs. Hopes are high this year for 1st year Coach Christie Cykert. After finishing 4-10 last year, the Vikings are headed to the playoffs and maybe a perfect season. If Rogers is to make a push into the playoffs they will have to use their athleticism and stay…
