The Salvation Army is looking to you for ideas.
Lt. Helen Johnson, Officer and Pastor at the Newport Corps Salvation Army, wants to know: Who do YOU consider a Newport celebrity? The Salvation Army will hold a "celebrity" bell ringing day at Bowen's Wharf and organizors need help brainstorming some of Newport's most famous faces. Johnson said suggestions can include politicians, business owners, artists, or any other well-known names from around town. Check back with Patch for the finalized list and schedule.
The Salvation Army will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner until power resumes in Newport.
Salvation Army on Memorial Boulevard will be giving out free meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner for as long as Newport remains without power. Meals are not limited to Newport residents, and will be served to all. Breakfast starts at 9 am, lunch at 12:30 pm and dinner at 5 pm. Each meal will run for approximately an hour, Kevin Johnson said. "We have generators to serve meals, and we're getting more resources in too," Johnson said. They will also be giving out bottled water to those who have run out. Anyone looking to volunteer, please contact Kevin Johnson at 401-575-3504.
