Fifteen sailors will make up the historic first-ever class of inductees into the National Sailing Hall of Fame.

Catching up to 200 years of sailing history in the U.S.A., the National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame (NSHOF) today announced the 15 sailors who will make up the historic first-ever class of inductees into the National Sailing Hall of Fame.  Over a two-month period this spring, sailors from all corners of the country – including a U.S. Senator and the mayor of a major metropolitan city – nominated their choice for induction into the sport’s Hall of Fame, some even going so far as to consult noted sailing historian John Rousmaniere for accuracy in putting together their submissions.  Inductees are American citizens, 45 years of age and up, who have made significant impact on the growth and development of the sport in the U.S. in categories …

Eyes on the Water: J Class Regatta Race Two

Day two of the J Class Regatta.

In tight battle that came down to a gap of less than a half a boat's length, Ranger beat Velsheda once again in yesterday's J Class regatta with an elapsed time of  2:06:13.  Downwind the yachts had to pass a gate at Fort Adams, which provided optimal viewing for spectators. Newport Shipyard is open to the public and public race viewing is available at Fort Adams. Complementary Grey Goose cocktails are available from 4:30 - 5:30PM at the Shipyard, along with a cash bar, food and vendor tents.  Today's race begins at 1 p.m. and races will continue through Sunday.

PUMA's Trash Is Another Sailor's Treasure

The PUMA Mar Mostro team will be hosting a yard sale at the Newport Shipyard.

For the PUMA Mar Mostro team to sail out of Newport's harbor, they will have to leave some precious cargo behind. As summer revs into gear, the famed sailing team will prepare to navigate the ocean waters and take on other sailors in the 2011 Transatlantic Race from Newport to Lizard, U.K. The team will then move on to the renowned Volvo Ocean Race 2011/2012.  The PUMA Ocean Racing Team yard sale will be held at Newport Shipyard on Saturday, June 25. The yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. and everything that can't and won't make it on the boats must go. “All great adventures have brief moments of regret and for me the biggest moment of regret will be sailing out of Newport on July 3rd and knowing we are leaving one of the most beautiful places…
