Thousands indulged on Newport's seafood offerings this weekend at the city's Chowder and Oyster festivals.
Newport's inaugural Oyster Festival drew thousands of patrons who readily devoured thousands of coveted local molluscs. From 11 a.m. til 6 p.m. on June 1, the Newport Yachting Center hosted the Oyster Festival alongside the 32nd annual Chowder Festival, widening the seafood event's appeal. The Oyster Festival featured everything from lobster rolls to fried clams and, of course, oysters, all from the Matunuck Oyster Bar. Can you guess the winners from this year's Chowder Cook Off?

The 32nd Annual Newport Chowder Cook Off is on Saturday, and don't forget to chase your chowder with some oysters at the city's inaugural Oyster Festival.
The 32nd Annual Polar Seltzer Great Chowder Cook-Off kicks off on Saturday, June 1 at the Newport Yachting Center and will be offering discounted tickets through May 31. The Yachting Center announced it will offer “Ten Clams Off” its $25 day-of event ticket starting tomorrow, Friday, March 22 at noon through Wednesday, May 1. The discounted, $20 ticket to the original, largest and longest running chowder championships in the country also includes membership in limited quantities into the Chowdahead Club featuring the “Chowder Power Hour” where the ultimate “Chowda” fans can enjoy an early, all-access experience an hour prior to the event’s official noon start. Are you ready for some chow-DAH? The Newport Yachting Center’s 31st annual Schweppes Great Chowder Cook-Off kicks off the traditional summer season in Newport this Saturday, June 2, from noon to 6 p.m. Two dozen competitors will vie for “Best Clam," “Best Seafood" and “Best Creative” chowder glory. The event will also feature all-you-can-eat “chowda" or "chow-dah," the Clam Cake Chow-Down competition, live music and a variety of entertainment for all ages.
