Beach Polo Returns to Newport Winter Festival This Weekend

Polo matches will be played Saturday and Sunday at noon at Easton's Beach in Newport.

Back by popular demand, beach polo returns to the Newport Winter Festival on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24, at noon at Easton's Beach for an exciting exhibition match of equine polo each day.  The event is free and open to the public. Call the 24-hour information line at 401-846-0200 for status updates and weather changes.  Beach polo, organized by Newport Polo Inc., will feature two teams competing each day in a match composed of four periods of play, seven minutes per period.  In between periods, the players change to fresh horses. The Newport Winter Festival is in full swing, and we want to re-live your favorite  moments through your photos and videos! People flocked to the harbor, King Park and Queen Anne Square to get a glimpse of Newport's spectacular fireworks show last Friday night, local cooks showed off their skills at the Chili Cook-Off and crowds gathered around sculptors carving masterpieces from blocks of ice; and those are just a few of the highlights! Extended Hours and Specials at Newport Skating Center

The Newport Skating Center will offer extended hours, special shows and skate camp to help celebrate winter vacation and Newport Winterfest.

Extended hours and a host of activities are happening at the Newport Skating Center over the next week to celebrate public school vacation and the 25th Annual Newport Winter Festival running through next Sunday, February 24.  In addition to receiving $2 off skating admission with a Newport Winter Festival button, the Island Skating Academy will present a show at the rink as part of the Festival’s activities and manage the popular skate camp.  The rink will also host Live DJ Skate Nights on both Fridays of the Newport Winter Festival along with other nightly specials. Newport Winter Festival Begins Today

Winterfest kicks off today with several events and a fireworks display.

The Newport Winter Festival begins today and is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary. The ten-day celebration will kick off with more than 20 events today, including a fireworks display at 6:30 p.m. over Newport Harbor. Click here for a full calendar of events. 25th Annual Winter Festival to Return with Night of Fireworks

The Newport Winter Festival returns to Newport February 15-24.

The Newport Winter Festival, “New England's Largest Winter Extravaganza,” returns to the City-by-the-Sea February 15-24, 2013, marking its silver anniversary. PHOTOS: Winter Polo Heats Up Atlantic Beach

The Newport Polo Club's polo ponies kicked up sand this past weekend as part of the Newport Winter Festival.

The Newport Winter Festival's final weekend included two exciting days of polo matches in an unusual location. For the third year in a row, the Newport Polo Club brought two matches to Atlantic Beach in Middletown as part of the annual festival.   More than 100 spectators lined the beach bordering Middletown and Newport to watch two teams face off in this special event. With a Sunday afternoon temperature of 41 degrees, spectators bundled up under blankets and huddled together.  The Newport Polo Team won Sunday's match against the Newport Girls' Interscholastic team, which goes by the nickname "The Pink Ladies."
