Extended Hours and Specials at Newport Skating Center

The Newport Skating Center will offer extended hours, special shows and skate camp to help celebrate winter vacation and Newport Winterfest.

Extended hours and a host of activities are happening at the Newport Skating Center over the next week to celebrate public school vacation and the 25th Annual Newport Winter Festival running through next Sunday, February 24.  In addition to receiving $2 off skating admission with a Newport Winter Festival button, the Island Skating Academy will present a show at the rink as part of the Festival’s activities and manage the popular skate camp.  The rink will also host Live DJ Skate Nights on both Fridays of the Newport Winter Festival along with other nightly specials. Newport Skating Center Closed This Week

The rink will be closed for about a week for improvements.

If you’ve noticed that the live rink cam at the Newport Skating Center has been a bit low on action lately, there’s a reason. The rink will be closed this week while they work on improvements and will open up again in February. Newport Yachting Center Event Coordinator Erica Keating said the rink will be closed this week while they update equipment. They plan to re-open for the week of Feb. 6. Newport Yachting Center Will Kick Off Holiday Season With Tree Lighting and Skating

The tree lighting will begin on Friday, Dec. 9 at 5:45 p.m.

The Newport Skating Center, formerly the Sovereign Bank Family Skating Center, will be the place to kick-off the season in the “City by the Sea” this coming Friday, Dec. 9 at 5:45 - 6:45 p.m. as the 31st Annual Tree Lighting of a majestic 35-foot Colorado Blue Spruce and other activities are sure to get all who attend in the holiday spirit. Entry to the event, located at the Newport Yachting Center, is free.   Kris Kringle is getting excited to lace up his skates! During the event, choruses from the Newport School Department’s Sullivan and Cranston-Calvert Elementary Schools will sing carols while everyone enjoys complimentary hot cocoa and cookies.  Free samples, including Amica Lip Balms, Apple & Eve Fruitables, Maruchan Noodles and more…
