Nels E. Berghman Jr., 20, of Newport, was arrested around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, for domestic vandalism, drug possession and a weapons charge. According to the victim, Berghman was throwing things around her apartment. Reports said that when police searched Berghman, they found crack cocaine in his pocket and a steak knife in the pocket of his sweatshirt. Jeremie K. Millow, 54, of Lakeville, Mass., was arrested around 11:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, for a domestic simple assault charge. Police were dispatched to Newport Grand for a report of a physical altercation between two women. The head of security told police the two of them had gotten into a fight. According to reports, the victim said Millow was having problems with the ATM, became upset and began swearing. The argument escalated and Millow reportedly kicked the other woman twice. Police were able to view the fight on surveillance footage. Warrant arrest Monique J. Freeman, 35, of 439 Broadway, Newport, was arrested around 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, for an active warrant for failure to appear in court. The above reports …

Police Bust Woman, Underage Drinkers Lisa Kingston, 31, of 231 Maple Ave., Newport was arrested around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, March 25 for purchasing alcohol for minors. Briana Anderson, 18, of 130 Rogers Lane, Middletown, Paul G. Salas, 19, of 74 Third Beach Road, Middletown and a minor were cited around 10 p.m. for possession of alcohol by a minor. Police were dispatched to 231 Maple Ave. for a report of a party involving underage drinking. Reports said the group initially ignored police. When Kingston came outside, she told police she was alone. Officers entered the home and found the other three hiding in the bedroom. They all submitted to breathalyzer tests. Jose A. Rodriguez Jr., 29, of 143 Third St., Newport, was arrested around 9:23 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, for a drug distribution charge. Police obtained two warrants for two units at 143 Third St. after a two-week investigation. Reports said the vice unit had purchased cocaine from Rodriguez. When officers searched unit 2B, they reportedly found 45 individual bags of cocaine, $6,000 in cash in a safe and $920 in Rodriguez’s wallet. Newport man charged after leaving gun behind Carlton R. Meriwether, 29, of Newport, was arrested around 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 21, for a domestic assault with a deadly weapon charge. Update: Tuesday, March 19 1:16 p.m. The Newport Police Department has released the official crime stats from St. Patrick's Day weekend. According to officials, police made 84 arrests. The previous report of 94 arrests was the result of double reporting. Read the full report and breakdown here. Original report: Monday, March 18 According to Newport police, 94 people were either arrested or cited on St. Patrick's Day weekend. Last year, more than 70 people had run-ins with the police. In 2011, 95 people were either cited or arrested on parade day. Most of the arrests were for alcohol-related charges. Brendan T. Barrett, 24, of 75 Park Holm Newport, was arrested around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, for a drug possession charge. According to reports, police saw Barrett walking and he appeared to be evading them. When two warrants came back from dispatch for B. Barrett, police stopped him. During a search, officers reportedly found green pills wrapped in cellophane on Barrett. He told police they were Clonazepam and that he did not have a prescription for them. Angelo S. McDowell, 19, of Newport, was arrested around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, for domestic simple assault, domestic assault by strangulation and domestic refusal of a telephone charges. According to the victim, McDowell assaulted her at the Pineapple Inn. Reports said she had marks on her eye and her neck. He reportedly fled the scene and took her cell phone with him. Thomas D. Donovan, 59, and Patricia Donovan, both of Newport, were arrested around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, for domestic disorderly conduct charges. When police arrived, they were both bloody and appeared to be drunk, reports said. The two accused each other of throwing punches, but neither would elaborate or give a written statement. According to reports, the fight broke out over a bottle of alcohol. Patricia Donovan was transported to Newport Hospital to treat a cut on a her finger.
