Morgan Moffa, 31, of 201 Riverside St., Portsmouth was arrested around 1:15 a.m. Thursday on a driving under the influence and for refusal to submit to a chemical test. Moffa allegedly hit an iron fence at Rough Point, located at 680 Bellevue, and then kept driving. Damage to the fence was estimated at $5,000. When police walked up to his car, Moffa allegedly leaned out the window and said “I’m sorry I [expletive] up.” He promised not to do it again if police would let him go, said police. When asked for his license, he handed insurance and registration information that expired in 2012, said police. The Newport Police Department reported the following arrest for Wednesday May 15: Robert Jurich, 57, of 76 Broadway Apt. #403, was arrested Wednesday around 10:50 a.m. on simple assault charges. He allegedly tripped in the hallway of his apartment complex, took off his hat and hit a 64-year-old Newport man with it several times. Jurich allegedly told police the victim tripped him, so he hit him with his hat.

Newport police made two separate arrests within two days after family discussions ended with punches thrown. A brother and sister were arrested Thursday after they allegedly began fighting during a conversation their mother had about “everyone behaving” while on their trip in Newport. Police charged Victor Filsaime, of 1216 Paul St., Orlando, FL, 26, with two counts of domestic simple assault and domestic vandalism. His 20-year-old sister, Maryline Raymond, of the same address, was charged with domestic assault. Filsaime told police his sisters were disrespectful to their mother so he slapped one sister and grabbed Raymond by her left arm. Raymond allegedly responded by punching her brother in his face. A Newport woman was arrested around 6:05 p.m. Wednesday after she allegedly hit two cars and fled the scene. Ingrid Pena-Tejada, 48, of 143 Third Street, Apt #4F, was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident of an attended vehicle and for an open container. No injuries were reported. Police said she registered a .278 and .277 on Breathalyzer tests, which is over three times the legal limit Two drivers told police they were rear-ended while stopped at the intersection of America’s Cup Avenue and Farewell Street. Michael Santucci, 24, of 10 Autumn Hill Road Apt #2, Leominster, MA, was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly pulled the fire alarm at Motel 6. A witnesses told he was acting “freaky” and running back and forth in the hallway in his boxers. Police said he appeared intoxicated and his hand was bleeding. Santucci allegedly told police he didn't know it was a fire alarm. He was charged with false fire/police alarm with the intent to damage and vandalism.

Vladimir Ramsey, 19, of 10 Cross Street Apt. #2, Newport, was arrested Monday around 9:45 a.m. on charges of receiving stolen goods. On April 26, Ramsey and two friends allegedly went to Walmart to steal video games. Ramsey told police they watched until the “coast was clear” and then went through the garden center and placed the video games under the outside fence. The three friends took the games Gamestop and exchanged them for cash, said police. Ramsey turned himself in at the police station.
The ceremony took place on Monday evening at Thompson Middle School on Broadway.
The Newport Police Department proudly honored 25 officers and five civilians Monday night. Awards included Meritorious Service Awards, Chief’s Awards, Medal of Valor, Medal of Honor, and Officer of the Year Award. This ceremony began from the police station to Thompson Middle School, coming to attention at Thompson Middle School and then marching into the ceremony.
