Jealous Rage Leads to Two Arrests

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Two Newport women were arrested after they allegedly yelled at an employe at Aquidneck Pizza in Middletown and kicked her car window. Victoria Gamble, 29, of 59 Homer and Amanda Olszewski, 28, of 16 Vaughn St. Apt. #1, reportedly sat down at the bar and ordered two beers around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gamble asked for an employee by name and said she was going to “beat the [expletive] out of her," said police. The women yelled at employees until the owner intervened and escorted the two women outside. As she left the restaurant, Gamble allegedly yelled, “You slept with a married man, you can’t hide forever.” A witness said Olszewski walked over to the employee's car, kicked the driver side mirror and broke the glass. Two Men Allegedly Printed and Used Counterfeit Money

Two men were arrested Tuesday after police say they printed and used counterfeit money in Newport and Middletown

Two men were arrested Tuesday after police said they had been using counterfeit $20 bill at Newport and Middletown businesses. Daniel Spearin, 36, of 249 Connell Hwy Apt #237 and Jerry Moening, 25, of 84 Abby Ln, North Kingstown allegedly had been printing the bills while living at the Motel 6 in Newport.  Newport and Middletown detectives worked together on the investigation that led to the arrests. Moening reportedly told police that he worked together with Spearin to produce fake the money. He said that he watched Spearin “scrub” one dollar bills with oven cleaner and a toothbrush to remove the ink from the paper. They taped the bills to a piece of paper and printed the bills to convert them into $20 bills, said police.    Moening told…

Newport Man Charged With DUI While Visiting Dead Brother

The following arrests were reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

A Newport man was charged with his third driving under the influence (DUI) offense, a felony, Wednesday as he attempted to visit his dead brother in the cemetery, according to police reports.  Timothy Keith Marks, 38, of 15 Meeting St., was arrested at 2:45 a.m. after a vehicle, operated by Marks, pulled into the cemetery at Newport Memorial Park.  A police officer first spotted the red Chevrolet S10, operated by Marks, traveling north on Vaucluse Avenue. A check of the vehicle's registration did not match the vehicle's description.  The police cruiser followed the vehicle into the cemetery, where the Chevrolet came to a stop and turned off all lights. Second Arrest Made in Stabbing Incident Involving Newport Man

The following arrest was reported by the Middletown Police Station. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Middletown police arrested Gregory Purdy, 30, of 63 Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth on felony charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy on Tuesday morning in connection to the stabbing at Scotty's Big Dawgs. The victim was a 29-year-old Newport man.  Last Sunday, police also arrested Quinci Hill, 23, of Newport, on a felony assault with a dangerous weapon charge after they found him on-scene with bloody shirt. Police said they found the victim behind Dunkin Donuts with stab wounds to his stomach and up the left side of his chest area. Newport Man Allegedly Stabbed at Middletown Bar; Police Make Arrest

The following was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Middletown police arrested Quinci Hill, 23, of Newport on a felony assault with a dangerous weapon charge after a 29-year-old Newport man was allegedly stabbed at Scotty's Big Dawg's early Sunday morning.  Hill does not have a permanent address on record. Police reported they were called to Big Dawg's around 1:05 a.m.  for a report of a fight inside the bar. Police said when they arrived on-scene, a crowd of people yelled, "He's inside!"  Police said Hill's shirt was covered in blood and there was blood on a wall near the door.  Hill allegedly told police the blood was from his own nose but reports said he showed no signs of injury. 110 Underage Citations Issued at Two College Parties

The following was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Middletown police broke up two college parties this weekend, which resulted in 110 underage drinking citations and one arrest. Police said one man was transported to the hospital because he was so drunk.  Around 11:35 p.m. on Friday, police responded to 48 Warren Ave. for a noise complaint. Police said there were beer cans everywhere and a room was so full, that people were pressed up against each other. There were no fire escapes or ladders if a fire broke out, commented police. Newport and Portsmouth police departments responded to assist Middletown. Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Newport Bicyclist on West Main Road

The following incident was reported by the Middletown Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction

Around 11:32 Friday night, 36-year-old Eddy Gomez of Newport was hit by an alleged drunk driver while riding his bicycle on West Main Road.  He was taken to the Newport Hospital and then to the Rhode Island Hospital.  His condition is not known at this time, but his injuries were considered major.  The driver, Jacob Voelz, 32, of 969 West Main Road, Middletown was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated that involve bodily harm, a felony.  Police said when they arrived on-scene on West Main Road near Applebees,  the victim was conscious but was bleeding from his mouth and unable to respond.  There was a large dent on the passenger side of the vehicle's hood and the front windshield was severely cracked, said police.  A witness …

Local Officers Raise Money For Police Unity Tour

"We ride for those who died" is the motto that the members of the Police Unity Tour spoke of at the annual Sunday motorcycle ride.

In 1997, eighteen Police Officers rode their bikes 300 miles beginning in Florham Park, NJ and finished in Washington, DC. This year 1200 riders made that same 300 mile trip. Among them were Lt Mike Faria of the Middletown Police Department and Officer Joe Carroll of the Newport Police Department. They rode along with fellow officers and family members of fallen officers. Each rider is asked to raise money that is used to maintain the National Law Enforcement Memorial, the National Law Enforcement Museum, and given to families of officers killed in the line of duty. Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes into Jeeps at Dealership

The following incident was reported by the Middletown Police Department.

Jessica Lalli, 25, of 134 Harrison Ave., Newport, was arrested Tuesday evening around 5:40 p.m. on DUI charges after she allegedly lost control of her vehicle and crashed into three new Jeep Wranglers at Clare Dodge on West Main Road. Police reported her passenger had a severe laceration near her mouth and was unable to speak before she was treated by the Middletown Fire Department. Lalli broke her leg and arm in the accident. According to police reports, the passenger said that she was operating recklessly due to “road rage.”  She also told police Lalli had been drinking but refused to let her drive.   At the hospital, police said Lalli did not remember many details of the accident. Bicyclist Dies After Vehicle Accident on Purgatory Road

Police have identified the victim as 42-year-old Michael Strickland of Middletown. The accident remains under investigation.

A 42-year-old Middletown man died Thursday after he was struck by a vehicle while bicycling on Purgatory Road. Middletown Police have confirmed that the victim of the accident was 42-year-old Michael Strickland of Middletown. Strickland was reportedly riding his bicycle eastbound on Purgatory Road, approaching the intersection with Tuckerman Avenue, when a vehicle operated by 51 year-old Arthur Chapman, of Portsmouth, was traveling up the hill on Purgatory. Strickland was transported to Newport Hospital and later Rhode Island Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries that night, said the Middletown Fire Department.  The department reported that Strickland was wearing a helmet.  The accident remains under investigation.
