Review It: International Tennis Hall of Fame

The "Review It" series will pick one Newport business every Monday.

The hall of fame is described in its Patch directory listing: Located in the original rooms of the Newport Casino, The International Tennis Hall of Fame Museum houses memorabilia that highlights the best of tennis, both past and present. The collection dates back to the 12th century and includes the trophies and attire of the sport's biggest stars, vintage equipment, video highlights and more. Most recently the museum took in the attire of Nicolas Mahut, fresh off his performance in the longest-running tennis game in Wimbledon history. If you have been there, share your rating …

Isner to Play Nicholas Mahut in Round 2 of Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships

This will be the fourth grass court match for the players who famously played the 3-day, 11 hour and 5 minute match at Wimbledon in 2010, which Isner won in the fifth set, 70-68.

In a blockbuster day two at the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, the top-3 seeds advanced to the second round, Americans in competition went 5-0, and John Isner secured yet another match with Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, who he famously defeated after an epic 3-day Wimbledon match in 2010. "We can't avoid each other on grass," Newport's defending champion Isner joked about his pairing against Mahut. After the 2010 Wimbledon battle, both Isner and Mahut donated their racquets and other memorabilia from the longest match in tennis history to the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum, where it is now displayed. Isner and Mahut's fourth meeting will take place on Center Court tomorrow, where it will be the third match on court. …

Titanic Survivors Remembered in Tennis and the Titanic

A new exhibit at the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum will pay tribute to two Hall of Famers who survived the Titanic sinking, Karl Howell Behr and Richard Norris Williams II.

Like many of the R.M.S. Titanic's approximately 2,200 passengers, Americans Karl Howell Behr and Richard Norris Williams II climbed aboard the ill-fated ship in search of their dreams- Behr was chasing love, and Williams striving for an Ivy League education and a successful tennis career. When the grand, "unsinkable" ship struck an iceberg late on April 14, 1912, the two were among the small, fortunate group of just 700 or so survivors. After meeting for the first time aboard the rescue ship R.M.S. Carpathia, neither man took their good fortune for granted, and they achieved great success as two of the best players in the history of tennis. Williams remarkably won the U.S. Nationals Mixed Doubles title just months after the Titanic …
