Illuminated Garden's First Night Canceled

Friends of Ballard Park are still planning for their walk in the quarry meadow Saturday evening.

"Extreme mud" and inclement weather has canceled the first night for the seventh annual Illuminated Garden event, Friends of Ballard Park wrote in an email. Saturday's walk in the quarry meadow of Ballard Park is still set for 6-9 p.m. "Enjoy an evening walk in the [meadow] when it is transformed into a magnificent blooming winter garden of lights. Thousands of lights will sparkle in a series of unique displays again this year," the email stated. The group cautioned against potentially hazardous trail conditions: Trails are rugged and may be muddy and dark in places ... please wear appropriate shoes or boots. Event goers may also want to bring a flashlight.

Your Holiday Lights Could Help Illuminate Ballard Park

Donate your lights now to help with the 7th annual Illuminated Garden.

The Friends of Ballard Park are asking Newporters to consider donating their Christmas tree lights to help illuminate the park during the 7th annual Illuminated Garden. Anyone with lights to offer is asked to drop them off at the nonprofit's office at 226 Bellevue Avenue #10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The Friends will also gladly come pick up the lights if you call 619-3377 or email them at info@ballardpark.org. The annual Illuminated Garden is scheduled for Feb. 25 and 26 this year in Ballard Park. In addition to lights, Friends of Ballard Park could also use outdoor extension cords and lamps - two feet or higher. Interesting lamp shades are also welcome. Those who give will receive a tax receipt for their donation.
