Gifts That Say 'Newport'

Give the gift of the City by the Sea.

Are you a proud Newporter looking for a gift that says just that? Sure, there’s gifts that you can find Only in Rhode Island, but there are some things that just say “The City by the Sea.” Here are a few gifts you can give this season that show some of the best of what Newport has to offer. If you have other ideas, share your thoughts in the comments section below. 1. Pair together two Alex and Ani charm bracelets, the Newport bridge and an anchor, to create a Newport feel. 2. POLL: Could We See a White Christmas?

Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments section.

Could Rhode Island see a white Christmas?  The odds are relatively ylow, according to Cornell University's Northeast Regional Climate Center. The university determined this week that the Providence area has a 30 percent chance of seeing an inch or more on Dec. 25. That's better than Boston (a 20 percent chance), New York (12 percent) or D.C. (10 percent). But if you want the best chance at seeing snow, you'll have to head north. Pinkham Notch, NH, has a 95 percent chance. Even if our odds are slim, we still want to believe we'll wake up to the white stuff on Christmas morning. What do you think?

Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments section below.

The heat is on, holiday shoppers. With Christmas less than two weeks away, the mad dash to finish gift shopping begins. Shipping giant FedEx reported that today was the busiest day in the company's nearly 40-year history, with forecasters predicting that approximately 17 million shipments would get moved Monday — double the company's typical daily volume. For those of us whose packages were part of that rush, we can rest assured that our gifts will be under the tree just in time for Christmas morning. For the rest of us...we'll either be running around frantically on Christmas Eve, or presenting our loved ones with gifts in the days that follow, reminding them "it's better late than never" and "it's the thought that counts." With 12 days …
