Old-fashioned family fun, food and entertainment brought out thousands of visitors to Middletown's Norman Bird Sanctuary over the weekend.
For 37 years, Middletowners have welcomed the fall with the Norman Bird Sanctuary's annual Harvest Fair. The Mud Pit, Mabel's Express Barrel Train, Grease Pole, pony rides and ropes challenges kept the kids on their toes, while local restaurants, artists, vendors, entertainers and musicians greeted visitors from all over Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. What does it take to pull off an event like this every year? More than 300 volunteers, says Norman Bird Sanctuary Offce Manager Sarah Deleiris, who's already recruiting volunteers for the NBS' next big event "Holly Days" in December.
