Gulls Peaking As Playoffs Approach
The Newport Gulls are once again a strong contender.
Based in Newport, The Gulls are a historically dominant team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. The NECBL is a wooden-bat, summer collegiate baseball League. Since 2001, The Gulls, a force to be reckoned in the NECBL Eastern Division, have played their games at Cardines Field. The team's past successes have made the words "winning" and "Gulls" synonymous. The Gulls have captured the NECBL title four times over the past decade: 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2009. Currently, the team is 21-15 overall, leaving them tied with the North Shore Navigators for first place, and seemingly poised to make another late-season run for another NECBL title.
