La Salle remains in the top spot, and they remain undefeated.
Back after a week’s absence – thanks Sandy! – not much has changed in the top six. Although the order has switched around a bit, La Salle, Hendricken, Cranston East and Portsmouth remain the top four in the state. La Salle remains undefeated, while the other three have traded wins and losses against one another. Behind the top four in Division I lurk the best two teams – so far – in Division II, Johnston and Cumberland. After the top six is where the ballot gets jumbled, with a mixture of mediocre Division I programs, good Division II programs and great Division III programs. La Salle takes all 14 first place votes in the latest Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll, after Hendricken is beaten by Portsmouth.
All 14 first place votes went to No. 1 La Salle this week, after No. 3 Hendricken took its first loss of the season, 39-13, to No. 2 Portsmouth. The win puts the Patriots in good position for a home game in the Division I playoffs, as long as they can win Friday against No. 4 Cranston East. The Thunderbolts can muddy the picture further with a win of their own though. The big movers in this week’s poll were No. 13 West Warwick, No. 18 Westerly and No. 19 East Providence, although for the wrong reasons. All three teams fell at least five spots after losses. The top seven remain unchanged, and Rogers remains unranked after another loss, in the latest Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll.
Inaction is the new action, as the top seven remain unchanged in the Rhode Island Sports Media Football Poll, after a weekend of mostly winning. No. 3 Cranston East lost, but it was to Hendricken, and while they lost a first place vote and about 25 points in the polls, it wasn’t enough to drop below No. 4 Portsmouth. No. 7 Barrington lost to Tolman, which caused the Tigers to jump two spots in the polls, up into a tie at No. 10 with East Greenwich. However, the loss of 30 poll points for the Eagles weren’t enough for No. 8 West Warwick to overtake them. All 20 teams from last week’s poll stayed in this week. Football Poll – The top five remains unchanged, as South Kingstown drops out of the poll for the first time this year.
The top five – La Salle, Hendricken, Cranston East, Portsmouth and Johnston – remains unchanged in the latest Rhode Island High School Football Media Poll. Cumberland moved up one spot, to No. 6, following a convincing 41-6 win against unranked North Kingstown. La Salle is still ranked No. 1 in the state, but Hendricken is gaining, and Cranston East also remains in the hunt for the top ranking in the fourth week of the Rhode Island High School Football Media Poll. The top four of the poll remain unchanged, as La Salle, Hendricken, Cranston East and Portsmouth all won their games. The Johnston Panthers round out the top five, thanks to a 48-0 drubbing of Toll Gate. Shea (No. 15) and Coventry (No. 20) are new to the poll this week.
