Newport Police Log: Man Charged with Breaking into Met School
The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Nelson R. Pizarro, 32, of 90 Girard Ave., Newport, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28, for breaking into a public building and possessing burglary tools. Police were dispatched to the Met School for an active alarm. Officers stopped Pizarro, who exited from the side door. He dropped a bag on the ground, which contained a laptop and other items, including RIPTA passes and envelopes, according to reports. Police also seized a hat with eye holes cut out. He told police he was working overnight and had been cleaning and moving items. There were several recently broken windows, evidenced by shards of glass and footprints in the snow nearby.
