A funeral service was held this past Sunday for the late Terry Chiodo, who died Wednesday after being fatally stabbed on a RIPTA bus.
Family members and friends said goodbye Sunday to the late Terry Lynn “Sam” (Damms) Chiodo, the Portsmouth woman who died Wednesday, Feb. 27, after being fatally stabbed on a RIPTA bus. Many lined up outside the CrossPoint Church in Newport Sunday to pay their respects. A private burial was held after the service. Chiodo, 46, of Portsmouth died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, from injuries after she was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Her estranged husband, Christopher James, has been charged with first-degree murder. The family of the late Terry Chiodo, a Portsmouth woman who was fatally stabbed early Wednesday morning shortly after boarding a RIPTA bus, released the following statement. The victim's estranged husband, Christopher James, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death. The Texas family of Terry Chiodo wish to thank the heroes who grabbed the animal who murdered our family; on the bus, who risked their lives to apprehend that murderer. You will be hailed in Texas and by us as heroes; who do not stand by and witness assaults on women in public, and in private. Updated at 2:12 p.m. Portsmouth police have identified the woman who was fatally stabbed shortly after boarding a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus early Wednesday morning. The victim has been identified as Terry Chiodo, 46, of Portsmouth. Portsmouth police say Chiodo boarded the RIPTA bus in front of the Portsmouth Multi Purpose Senior Center on Bristol Ferry Road. The suspect, Christopher James, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Second District Court.
A Providence man, arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly stabbing a Portsmouth woman on a Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus, was arraigned this afternoon in Second District Court. Christopher R. James, 46, with a last known address of 207 Rhodes St., Providence, was charged with first-degree domestic murder, according to WPRO. He did not enter a plea at his arraignment, according to the article. He is also being held without bail pending a hearing, reports The Providence Journal. The Journal also released the identity of the victim despite investigators withholding this information pending family notification.
