Governor Chafee Speaks to Newport County Businesses, Explains Resources Available

The RIEDC spoke to Newport County small business owners on Friday morning, to provide an overview of the array of resources available.

The Rhode Island of Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) hosted a community outreach forum at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Friday morning that stepped Newport County small business owners through the different resources that are available.    In his introductory address, Governor Lincoln Chafee said during these tough economic times, he would like to see the State assist small businesses through management of property taxes.  "The greatest inhibitor to economic growth is high property taxes. . .our goal here is to do what we can to help out the property tax,” Chafee said. Friday night will bring together members and supporters of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce for the Newport Chamber 2010 Annual Dinner Dance and Silent Auction at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island. Because the Chamber of Commerce is a business organization, we think the perfect outfit should be something sophisticated, but still feminine and fun. We headed over to Karma, a designer consignment boutique at 13 Touro Street, to find just the right outfit. Chamber of Commerce Appoints New Board Member

The Newport County Chamber of Commerce announced the appointment of Barbara Arcangeli from Newport Hospital to its Board of Directors.

The Newport County Chamber of Commerse on Friday announced the appointment of Barbara Arcangeli to its board of directors. "We look forward to working with Arcangeli and Newport Hospital to expand our Human Resource Roundtable offerings," said Sanne Kure-Jensen, director of marketing and communications in a prepared statement. "Newport Hospital has been a Chamber sponsor for our 'Welcome to Newport County' program for many years." Arcangeli, who serves as vice president of human resources for Newport Hospital, has more than 30 years of experience.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Fairfield University and her master's degree in labor and industrial relations from the University of Rhode Island.
