Broadway Newcomer Bistro 162 Opens Tonight

The restaurant will officially open tonight at 5 p.m.

One of the newest additions to the Broadway scene officially opens its doors tonight. Bistro 162, which bills itself as “Hometown Feel, Downtown Appeal”, held a soft opening last weekend and will make it official tonight at 5 p.m. View their menu here. Owner and President Lainie Vonoplachecki has more than 30 year  of experience in the food service industry, according to her bio on Bistro 162’s website.  Her credits include The Seaman’s Church Institute, The Hilltop, The Franklin Luncheonette and the Francis Malbone Inn. Mark Glaister Knight will head the kitchen as Executive Chef.  Knight is no stranger to Newport either and has worked at The Mooring and the The Clarke Cooke House. A Newport New Year's Resolution: Revitalize Broadway?

Patch wants to know your ideas for how Newport could improve the Broadway area.

In 2012, Newport will host the America’s Cup Series, the Tall Ships Festival and many other world class events that will attract hundreds of thousands of tourists to the City by the Sea. As any good host, Newport must do some housekeeping to prepare for its guests. According to city officials, one of those priorities for the upcoming year will be to improve the Broadway area. Plans outlined in the past have include widened sidewalks for sidewalk cafes, paving improvements, increased lighting, plantings and street trees, a bus shelter and improved signage. I love the proposed improvements to Broadway - especially the sidewalk widening, additional trees and redesigned street parking. Can this be completed before the America's cup worlds? No. Which is fine. I'd like it to be done properly and not half-baked or rushed for an event deadline that is only a week long.
