HEALTH Recommends Two Nearby Beach Closures

HEALTH has recommended the closure of two Middletown beaches.

HEALTH recommended the closure of Peabody's Beach in Middletown and Third Beach in Middletown to swimming due to high bacteria counts. Officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend re-opening when the areas are safe for swimming. Water quality analysis is conducted by the HEALTH laboratory or a state certified laboratory.

Officials recommend the beach is closed to swimming

The Department of Health (HEALTH) recommends the closure of Atlantic Beach Club Beach in Middletown to swimming due to high bacteria counts. Officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend re-opening when the areas are safe for swimming. Fort Adams State Park Closed to Swimming

The park has been closed to swimming due to high bacteria levels.

The Department of Health (HEALTH) recommended the closure of Fort Adams State Park and Mackerel Cove Beach in Jamestown to swimming due to high bacteria counts. Officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend re-opening when the areas are safe for swimming. Water quality analysis is conducted by the HEALTH laboratory or a state certified laboratory. Beach status may change on a daily basis. Health Department Closes Beaches in Newport and Middletown

Days of rain prompt health department to close beaches to swimming because of high bacteria levels.

The Rhode Island Department of Health (DOH) has closed beaches around the state because of high bacteria levels, including two in Newport and three in Middletown. Closed until further notice are Easton's Beach and Fort Adams State Park in Newport, and Atlantic Beach Club Beach, Peabody's Beach, and Third Beach, all Middletown. They remain closed until further notice because of bacteria levels caused by stormwater run-off. Anyone who swims these waters runs the risk of contracting nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as infections to any open cuts or wounds, according to health department reports.
