Newport Legion Team Falls From State Playoffs
R&R American Legion baseball team eliminated 10-8 by West Warwick.
The R&R Construction of Newport American Legion baseball team got off to a great start but couldn't sustain the pace during Wednesday's state quarterfinal game against West Warwick. Following an RBI double by Kevin Galvin and a two-RBI double by Mark Ventura, Newport had a 3-0 lead after two innings. West Warwick responded, however, with a pair of run-producing singles in the top of the third, before getting a huge boost the next inning. With two runners on first and second, West Warwick's Dan Smith sent a towering shot over the right centerfield fence to propel West Warwick to a 4-3 lead.
