The report had a two-fold purpose: first, to analyze the fiscal impact of the ACWS, and second, to act as a learning tool for the state to better host comparable large marine events in the future. The feedback came from a random survey of visitors on all nine practice and racing days in the public areas of Fort Adams, resulting in a test field of 1,260 valid responses…

I'm grateful for so many things.” Smith gushed about the almost perfect weather, the partnership with the community, and collaboration with hundreds of organizations throughout the city and state, which he said lead to about 60,000 visitors throughout the world series. “We did get up to the 10,000 mark on Saturday. It was a moral victory.” The saturation point at the fort was around 10,000, he said. “Going into this, we have said that we wanted people to leave Newport saying the world tour was very interesting, but that …

The ORACLE TEAM USA guys are sailing well, but we’ll do what we can do and if we can win the race we’ll be happy.” Newport delivered another perfect afternoon of racing conditions, with a sea breeze near 15 knots under sunny skies. Jimmy Spithill’s ORACLE TEAM USA crew couldn’t have had a better afternoon of racing at the AC World Series on Friday. First, they won their match race to advance to the Final on Sunday. Then, Spithill’s team stole a win in the fleet race with an impressive, last minute passing move, to deny the Kiwi team a storybook victory. “We got off the starting line well and the boys just dug in the whole way around and never gave up,” Spithill said. “We thought we had a shot at it (making the late pass), it was just a fantastic race track. There were a lot of passing opportunities out there; it was never over. But full credit to Team New Zealand, they did a lot of work last night and they got out there and were straight up to pace.” Emirates Team …
