Built circa 1820, it housed the Naval War College upon its founding in 1884. It was here that Captain Alfred Thayer Mahan, the second president of the War College and a renowned naval historian, gave his first speeches on sea power.
In addition to permanent exhibits, the museum also includes short-term special exhibits related to the War College's curriculum and to current naval-related topics.
