Newport Police Log: Man Allegedly Punches Out Pelham Window, Warrant Arrest

The following information was provided by the Newport Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Jared M. Kelly, 22, of 17671 Deer Isle Circle, Winter Garden, FL., was arrested around 1:08 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, for a vandalism charge. Police were called when Pelham employees allegedly saw Kelly punch a window and break it.  Warrant arrest Lukasz Kotarbinksi, 22, of 15 Meeting St., Newport, was arrested around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, for an active warrant for failure to appear in court with ability to pay. Newport Police Log: Man Arrested after Domestic Dispute

The following information was provided by the Newport Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Paul Evans, 43, of Newport, was arrested around 8:18 p.m. on Monday, May 14, for domestic disorderly conduct, vandalism and refusal of a telephone charges. Police were dispatched to his residence for report of a man yelling and smashing things around the apartment. When they arrived, there was broken glass on the floor and furniture and laundry had been thrown around the apartment. According to Evans' girlfriend, the two had gotten into an argument, which led Evans to break her phone other things around the home.  The above reports detail arrests made by the Newport Police Department. Newport Police Log: Eight Weekend Arrests

Jodie B. Matusak, 28, of 60 Whiffle Tree Lane, Tiverton, was arrested around 1 a.m. on Monday, May 14, for a first-offense DUI charge and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police pulled Matusak after she reportedly made an illegal right turn at a red light. Reports said Matusak failed the field sobriety test and refused to submit to the chemical test. Teen arrested for assault, disorderly conduct charges A 16-year-old girl was arrested on Sunday, May 13, for simple assault and disorderly conduct charges. Police were dispatched to Child & Family on Girard Avenue for a reported assault against a staff member. When police arrived, reports said three staff members were holding the girl down. "What do you mean I can't take this boat out?" Barrington police were called last Wednesday evening to question a young man getting out of a row boat at a private dock in Barrington who used the vessel without permission. The man admitted it was not his boat, which is owned by a Warren man. He said “the current in the river was too strong” and he could not return the boat to the other side, LaCross said. He was looking for a ride back to his cousin’s house. Barrington police said the man was from New York and was visiting a cousin in Warren. Firefighters Battle Apartment Blaze, Escort Man To Safety

A section of Broadway, near Dunkin' Donuts, was temporarily blocked to traffic around 6 p.m. Friday.

Neighbors crowded along busy Broadway early Friday evening as Newport firefighters quickly extinguished an apartment fire above Creative Nails II.  Crews were called to 152 Broadway, a three-story building, just after 6 p.m. Firefighters arriving witnessed smoke emanating from the third-floor windows.  "There was smoke showing," said Deputy Chief Frank Young. "The smoke was coming from the third floor. The windows were open."  A man, located on the third floor, was unable to exit the building due to the amount of smoke, according to the deputy chief. "He was escorted out," Young said. "He was able to walk on his own."  The cause and origins of the fire remain under investigation, Young said.  Charred chairs could be seen in front of the …

William M. Lee, 54, 969 W. Main Rd., Middletown was arrested around 1:10 p.m. on May 10, for an active warrant. Police were dispatched for a report of a suspicious person. Newport Police Log: Man Arrested for Second DUI Charge

Aaron Wilson, 54, of 11 Ludlow Rd., Middletown, was arrested around 11:57 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, for second-offense DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test and simple assault charges. An officer pulled Wilson over for not having his headlights on. According to reports, Wilson continuously called the officer “babydoll” and smelled of alcohol. Newport Police Log: Man Faces Arson, Vandalism Charges

South Kingstown man faces arson, vandalism charges  James Christodal, 40, of 262 Oakwood Dr., South Kingstown, was arrested around 6:08  p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, for  sixth-degree arson and vandalism charges. Police were dispatched to Farewell Street for a report of a person with an active fire in the trees at Queen Anne Square. Reports said there was a “large plume of smoke” coming from the wooded area. Officers reportedly found Christodal tending the fire and putting branches on it. The Newport Fire Department was dispatched to put out the fire. Newport Police Log: Couple Arrested After Domestic Dispute

The following information was provided by the Newport Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Devon Dyer, 20, and Tiffany Blank, 22, both of Park Holm Drive, were arrested around 9 p.m. Monday for domestic simple assault charges. Police were dispatched to the residence for a report of people arguing. When they arrived, reports indicate police could hear yelling and slapping noises. Officers said Blank and Dyer both had minor injuries and it appeared they had both been fighting each other. According to Blank, the two had been fighting over jobs and babysitting, when Dyer allegedly punched her. I happen to live in Park Holm I am a single mother of four children work a fulltime job and support my children myself. Park Holm is the one the few facilities that is affordable for me. Officer Matthew Corcelli Named 'Officer of the Year" at Police Awards Ceremony

Thirty officers and four civilians were honored at the awards ceremony last night.

Thirty Newport police officers and four civilians were honored during the Newport Police Department’s Annual Awards Ceremony at Thompson Middle School on Monday night. Officers were honored for their excellence in 24 separate incidents. BCI Officer Matthew Corcelli, an 11-year veteran of the Newport Police Department, was awarded Officer of the Year. Corcelli currently serves in the Criminal Investigation Division as Chief Crime Scene Investigator. “He draws rave reviews from his supervisors, including the Division Commander, Captain Russell Hayes,” a press released from the police department said. “Captain Hayes states that in a Department of many outstanding officers, Matthew's efforts have earned him to be recognized as the top officer …
