Mr. Drayton's 8th Grade Science class was recently given the task of constructing a cardboard chair that would support the weight of several textbooks. By studying the construction of chairs around St. Michael's and at home, the students created detailed prototype sketches to guide the creation of their own chairs. They were allowed to use only 4 square meters of cardboard and asked to avoid the use of staples, tape, and glue. The chairs were then tested to see if they could support 20 kilograms of books (about 44 pounds). Here are the (impressive) finished products...

On Wednesday October 5th, the St. Michael's community participated in International Bike/Walk to School Day. Over 70 students biked or walked to school and not only got some great exercise, but also helped to improve air quality by lowering emissions created by motor vehicles. Thank you to all those who took part along with the many volunteers who helped ensure the safe arrival of our bikers/walkers!

The Studio Art class at St. Michael’s Country Day School brought their creative efforts to Easton's Beach this week. The students were tasked with creating a large-scale group piece, using the sand as their canvas. The artists relied on gathered materials at hand; such as shells, rocks, seaweed and grass. Using simple gardening tools their creations came to life. Inspired by Andrew Goldsworthy in a tradition of site-specific outdoor artwork, fifty students in grades 5 through 8, along with their teachers Leslie Fisk and Robert Kalaidjian, worked on this project.
