Kathleen M. Silvia serves as the municipal clerk for the city of Newport. Her department is responsible for all public records and serves as: the recorder of deeds, registrar of births, marriages and deaths, clerk of the probate court and clerk of the city council.

Dog, catering, liquor and a host of other licenses are offered through the city clerk's office. A full list of available applications and forms can be found here.

In addition to Silvia, several other staffers serve the department. Laura Swistak Boiani serves as deputy clerk, Laura Geraghty as property records clerk, Laura MacSweeney, Julie Henderson and Stephen Luce as senior clerks.
