Common Burial Ground and Island Cemetery

<p>This large pair of historic cemeteries contains over 5,000 graves, featuring many of Newport's prominent families. A colonial slave cemetery and Jewish graves can also be found here. According to the Rhode Island Historical Society, most of the 17th century gravestones in Rhode Island are located in the Common Burial Ground.</p>
<p>The cemeteries were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.</p>
