The best little cafe between Bar Harbor and Key West. So the cafe has been described. This building was originally constructed as a brewery, and the roof was designed at a slant in order to collect water and bring it into the cistern in the basement to help with brewery operations. In the 1980s Murray Davis, the founder of Cruising World Magazine, named the establishment after F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife, Zelda. Tom and Roxanne Casllahan have been owners of the cafe since 1986. It is a popular spot with sailors as well as others for its French-American Bistro menu. There is a one-hundred-year-old tradition of serving seafood and steaks, and its signature dishes are chicken fried lobster and bouillabaisse. The kitchen uses catches from local fisheries and fresh produce from local gardeners in its dishes. The bar opens at 3:00pm and serves food for those wanting a late lunch. It is happy to accomodate private parties.
