A Conversation with Lt Col. Karen Pinch

Newport Public Library will welcome Lt. Col. Karen D. Pinch, the highest ranking woman in the RI State Police for an informal conversation about women in law enforcement and her own career. The conversation begins at 2 p.m. in the library's Program Room, lower level and the public is welcome.

UnDecked Halls

UnDecked Halls offers visitors a behind-the-scenes tour of the first floor of Rough Point, an English Manorial style mansion owned by Doris Duke. The tour provides an authentic view inside a Newport mansion in winter- shrouded and shuttered- when Miss Duke was in Hawaii. Visitors will experience the quiet house, learn about winter caretaking traditions, and get a rare glimpse into Miss Duke's tropical Hawaiian holiday. A highlight of the tour will be refreshments in the decorated staff wing, an area of the home not ordinarily open to the public.

Tours offered every half hour from 10am to noon on Saturdays, December 7, 14, 21, 28 and Friday, December 27.

Sunday, Dec. 22

Candlelight Lessons & Carols Service

A candlelight service of Lessons & Carols will be offered at Saint John the Evangelist Church, corner of Washington and Willow streets in Newport, at 6:30 p.m.
