The 'Official' Sandwich of Rhode Island?

What is Rhode Island's official sandwich?

Ask someone to list off the quintessential Rhode Island-bred food items, you'll get the usual: Del's, coffee milk, party pizza, clam cakes, hot wieners, etc. According to Zagat, Rhode Island's "unique regional sandwich" is...the Italian grinder? Zagat recommends grabbing this delicious meal at Hudson Street Deli in Providence.

Okay, I'm not sure if I agree with this. Then again, I've never deeply thought about what is Rhode Island's "official" sandwich. If anything, I'd say the lobster roll. Unfortunately, Maine (and rightfully so) nabbed that as their official sandwich. (Guys, can't we just share? Please?)

I mean, I know where I'd go for a darn good sandwich.

Geoff's up in Providence has never failed me, J's Deli is always a fan favorite. As a North Kingstown girl, Beach Rose Cafe is always a go-to for me. I just discovered Olga's Cup + Saucer and have started fantasizing about the Mayan Chicken Salad Sandwich.

At any rate, I'm still not sold on whether or not I'd consider the Italian grinder to be the official sandwich of the Ocean State. (Feel free to make your case below, however.)
