The prospect of spending an evening parked by the shore staring into the heavens with your better half at your side is an appealing, romantic gesture, to be sure. But sometimes, it's how you say things that matters.

And apparently — surprisingly? — those dropped Rs really make the ladies swoon.

Rhode Island has the fourth most attractive accent in the country, according to a new survey by dating site Cupid.com. More than 10 percent of 2,000 people surveyed voted the New England accent as most attractive. The survey revealed people across the country consider New Englanders to speak "with a certain swagger," Cupid.com wrote in its report, "which is clearly attractive. In fact, New England scored particularly high with females."

New England — one of the most "characteristic accents in the USA" — fell just behind the "laid-back" Western (13 percent) and "short and sharp talk" of New York (16.5 percent). Perhaps not surprisingly, when it comes to conversation, southern belles rein supreme. The "sweet sound of the South" is preferred by 36.5 percent of respondents.

New Jersey and Candadian accents tied at 7 percent, followed by Mid-western at 5.5 percent. Coming in last is the accent of the Mid-Atlantic, the area from Delaware to Pennsylvania.
