Newport Winter Festival Starts Today

Melt away the winter blahs with Newport's annual winter festival.

It's the 26th annual Newport Winter Festival and this year's theme is "Winter Latitudes, Tropical Attitudes."

Hearing that, it's hard not to think "count me in."

For the next 10 days, Newport will come alive with activities for all ages. It features food, art, museums, shopping, tours galore. Make your own perfume. Make a snowflake. Have a pillow fight (no zippers, please). Get a discount on Newport mansion tours. Explore the 14 exhibits at the Save the Bay Exploration Center and Aquarium at Easton's Beach.

And that's just what's on the calendar for Friday!

The highlights of the event are of course on tap: the children's fair, the chili cook-off, and a concert by The Cast of BeatleMania. Don't miss the Winter Festival Comedy Show with Paul D'Angelo and Mike Donovan or perhaps see a demonstration of ice sculpting presented by Bailey T's.

Money from the event goes to local charities and helps energize the city's winter economy. With so many participating vendors, it really is a unique way to find, see and taste new things the city has to offer.

All you need is your $9 Winter Festival button. It gets you in to a lot of free events and it's your ticket to discounts elsewhere.
