When Is the First Day of School in Newport?

Newport has one of the latest start dates for the 2013-14 school year: Sept. 5.

Students in the Newport School District are scheduled to start the 2013-14 school year on Sept. 5, among the latest in Rhode Island.

[According to the Rhode Island Department of Education, Middletown and Scituate are also set to start on Sept. 5. Only East Providence, on Sept. 6, starts its school year later.]

This year, the Claiborne Pell Elementary School for preschool through grade 4 is scheduled to open in time for the new school year.

According to information posted on the district's website, teacher in-service days are scheduled for Sept. 3 and 4.

The district also provides a link to Military Kids Connect for children of military personnel who are stationed in Newport.

And if your student is new to the Newport district, the new student registration guidelines are posted here.
