RHS Senior Earns Eagle Scout Award

BSA Troop 3 Newport recently celebrated the achievements of their newest Eagle Scout, Grady Patrick Bolan.

BSA Troop 3 Newport has recently honored a senior at Roger’s High School for earning his Eagle Scout Award. 

Friends, family and dignitaries including Congressman David Cicilline, Mayor Harry Winthrop and Councilor Naomi Neville celebrated Grady Patrick Bolan leadership project at a family dinner and scout candle ceremony at the Elks Lodge.

For his Eagle project, Bolan designed and led 24 members of the troop and community in building several large cedar raised planting beds for the new Pell Elementary School Children's Garden Project in Newport.

Bolan has captained the indoor and outdoor track teams as well as the varsity football team.  Off the track, he has participated in RHS theater productions including the part of Bob Cratchit in the recent production of "A Christmas Carol.The high school senior has consistently been a member of the honor roll and was voted the September 2013 Rhode Island Interscholastic Athlete of the Month. Bolan was also chosen to serve as a member of the Rhode Island Congressional Youth Cabinet.

Bolan plans on attending college in the fall of 2014, with the goal of pursuing a career in military aviation.

Boys in Troop 3 range in age from 11-17 years old.  They attend Cluny School, St. Philomena School, Thompson Middle School, Rogers and Middletown High Schools and some are home schooled. Boy Scouts of America has three objectives:  character development, citizenship training and personal fitness.
