Temporary Paving to Begin on Broadway

The paving is expected to begin Tuesday

Broadway will soon have a new, albeit, temporary overlay. The interim paving project was added as a change request to the 2013 Roadway Improvement Program, after local businesses and residents expressed concerns about safety and the ability for plows to remove snow this winter.

In a 6-0 vote, the change order of $133,000 was approved by Newport City Council at a special meeting held Wednesday, Dec. 4. Councilor Kathryn Leonard was absent.

The construction costs estimated by D’Ambra Construction Co., are $128,000 with an additional $5,000 for police detail.

D’Ambra Construcion was awarded the $1.6 million Roadway Improvement Program contract last May. The program consists of pavement reclamation, roadway excavation, sidewalk and curbing improvements and utility work and installation of ADA accessible wheelchair ramps.
