Newport Launches Social Media Website

The City of Newport has launched a social media called Engage Newport.

The City of Newport will soon be more social.

City Manager Jane Howington outlined to city council members last week the features of a new social media website, Engage Newport (http://engagenewport.com/)

“The ultimate goal of Engage Newport is to provide a direct communication channel that informs citizens of the city’s happenings and motivates them to actively participate in political discussions, community programs, city projects, and various decisions that will shape the city’s future,” wrote Howington in a statement.

She told city council members the site contains a section named “Opinion Newport,” that contains an interface where residents can ask questions about specific projects. The site also has a page named “Issues and Initiatives” which provides a summary of city projects and links to more details. To encourage participation in community groups, the website hosts a “Getting Involved” section.
