Newport Housing Gets $1.7M in Fed Funds

The federal Housing and Urban Development agency recently provided nearly $1.7 million to the Newport housing authority.

As part of a $1.7 billion payment to about 3,100 housing authorities across the country, the federal Housing and Urban Development agency recently provided a $1.7 million grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Newport.

The grant is part of the federal department's capital fund program, which pays for updates and renovations to local public housing facilities.

Newport Housing was among the top grant recipients, behind Woonbsocket [$1.8 million] and Providence [$3.2 million], and represents about 14 percent of the total $11.7 million provided to Rhode Island housing agencies.
