Monday: Free Skate Night and Download Books for Free

A look at what's happening in and around Newport today.

  1. The has three new programs beginning today. There will be a Creative Writing Class from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., a Drawing and Painting Techniques Class from 1 to 3 p.m., and Intermediate Yoga from 10 to 11 a.m. Each of the programs will meet for 10 weeks and costs $35. Call 846-7426 for more information and registration.
  2. The will meet at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at to review existing petitions and eight new ones. The complete list can be found here

The Newport Public Library will host a workshop on downloading ebooks for free from the library from 7 to 8 p.m. If you have a Nook, Kindle, or other e-reader and want to learn how to borrow books from the library using them, this is the class for you. Register by calling 847-8720 ext. 208 or emailing info@newportlibraryri.org.
  4. Tonight is free skate night at Skate Newport from 5 to 9 p.m. People’s Credit Union sponsors free skating every Monday night except those that fall on holidays or during Newport County school vacations. Skate rental fees still apply. For more details, go to www.skatenewport.com.
  5. The Middletown Library will offer a for children ages 4 and up at 4 p.m. There will be stories, crafts, and fortune cookies for the children to enjoy. The program is free but registration is required and can be done by calling 846-1573.
