Howington Reportedly Withdraws Application for Ohio Manager Job

Newport might not have to start thinking about a new city manager after all.

Jane Howington, Newport's city manager, has reportedly pulled her name from consideration for the city manager's job in Brunswick, Ohio.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Howington has withdrawn from consideration according to an unnamed "Rhode Island official."

Howington did not respond to an e-mail over the weekend asking for comment.

Howington, who earns $140,000 per year here in Newport, reportedly was interested in moving to Ohio to be close to family there.

The job would have resulted in a pay cut with a salary of $100,000.

"I spent a lot of my career in Ohio, and my husband and I are interested in coming back, as our son lives in the Cleveland area," Howington said before her interview in Brunswick, according to the Plain Dealer.
